#28 Abby - One Hundred Alla Prima Portraits of American Teenagers

                                                                               "Abby"

"Learning about God is important to me.  Also my friends and family and learning to run and do yoga...learn to be yourself.  Everyone is unique."

I painted this on a linen that I didn't like, so I tried gessoing and toning it on the back and painting on that side instead. It was a really textured surface and I wasn't crazy about using it for a portrait. She was a great model and I would love to paint a longer painting of her.

#27 Jenna - One Hundred Alla Prima Paintings of American Teenagers

                                                                               "Jenna"

I felt a lot of intense emotions surrounding Jenna.  One of the artists painting along with me did not like the red background I choose; she felt that soft background colors best expressed teenagers, but I didn't see it that way.  I picked the red cloth not for aesthetic reasons, but as an emotional response to the vibe I felt around the model.
